Designed by North American Aviation, the T-6 is known by a variety of designations depending on the model and operating air force. The United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) and USAAF designated it as the AT-6, the United States Navy the SNJ, and British Commonwealth air forces as the Harvard.
The 1st flight of the Harvard/T-6 was on the 1st of April 1935. A total of 15,495 were built. The Harvard was used by 66 countries all over the world primarily as a training but sometimes pressed into combat aircraft. They were extensively used up until as late as 1996 when retired by the SAAF.
